Rs 42L jewellery, CCTV recording stolen from Charkop shop
MUMBAI: Gol
gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 43.90 lakh were robbed from a jewellery store in Charkop between Sunday night and Monday morning. The burglar also made away with a digital video recorder worth Rs 15,000 of the CCTV installed at the shop, Kunal Jewellers, near Apna Bazaar .
The incident took place after Satyanarayan Soni shut his shop around 10pm on Saturday and left for home. On Sunday morning, Soni’s friend called him up to inform him that the shop was open. When Soni rushed to the shop around 8.45pm, he found two grilles of the shutter broken and 830gm gold and 18kg silver burgled. While Soni had not installed any alarm at the shop, a watchman of the society where the shop is located would occasionally monitor all the stores on the premises.
The police said that the burglar may have targeted knowing that the store might be stocked up ahead of Akshay Tritiya, considered auspicious to buy gold. “As most jewellery stores instal CCTVs nowadays, the burglar was careful enough to take away the DVR so as to not leave any clue,” said an officer. Soni approached the Charkop police on Monday. A house break-in case has been registered.
